I suddenly realized that for once I both live a convenient distance from a movie theater AND there is a movie I wish to see. (Incidentally, it turns out that the cinema has an IMAX theater so the incidence of this may increase ... once Harry Potter is out of there. No offense to those movies, but I don't think they need IMAX.)

Anyway, I don't think I can be as effusive in my praise of Stardust as some of the reviews I've read, but I'm certainly not sorry I saw it. It's not a movie like The Matrix or Lord of the Rings that really benefits form the big screen. Sure it's got sweeping landscape shots and the like, which are better large, but what big budget movie these days doesn't? And, unlike Lord of the Rings say, immensities aren't really much of a plot element. As far as the movies content rather than it's format, it was an accurate transfer of the book to the new format. I can't say that it was a good translation per say, because it didn't take the chance to fit the story to the media a little better, but that is where most of the bad translations go wrong, so I guess I shouldn't complain. Also, It would probably have been better to have either not read the book, or have read it more recently than I have. My hazy memories kept being a distraction for me, so I wasn't able to immerse myself as much as the movie deserved.

All in all, a good movie. Now if you'll excuse me, it turned into a beautiful day out there while I was in the theater.

Edit: I forgot to say, those were the only problems I had with the movie, so it's quite a ways ahead of standard movie fare.
